Air Costa is intending to sell 26 percent of its stake to Qatar Airways. The stakes could go high if Air Costa management agrees to Qatar quoted price.
The news is not yet confirmed by both Qatar & Air Costa officials.
This would be an excellent opportunity for Qatar Airways to grow its Indian market. Qatar Airways CEO CEO Akbar al Baker had previously referred to IndiGo Airlines as its preferred partner. However, if Qatar Airways acquires Air Costa it would have a chance to serve the Indian crowd who are a major part of Middle East.
Air Costa is South India’s first privately-owned regional airline, operating from its major hubs at Chennai International Airport and Vijayawada Airport. The carrier operates modest fleet of three E-190s which are leased from GECAS, deployed on nine cities in southern and north-western India.
Air Costa has recently received approval for its network expansion across Indian Cities. The airline plans to connect more unchartered regions with metropolitan area, other secondary and tertiary business centers. To assist its desired plans Air Costa has 25 Embraer EMB190-E2s and ordered 25 Embraer EMB190-E2s.
